| Semen analysis - The laboratory examination of semen to check the quality and quantity of sperm. A complete semen analysis includes testing the pH, sperm concentration, motility, linearity, velocity (progression) and morphology. Sperm count is the number of sperm in the ejaculate (when given as the number of sperm per milliliter it is more accurately known as the sperm concentration or sperm density). Morphology involves assessing the shape of sperm and counting the percentage of normal shapes. Motility is the motion, such as the forward swimming motion of health sperm.
