Genetic Engineering

This stream of science has been maligned and praised at the same time. Maligned for the implications it can have if people start to engineer a custom made baby with physical and mental attributes they like and praised for the immense potential of the science to treat genetic defects and make us take a wise decision where treatment is not at hand.

Congenital disorders and progressive disease can be corrected to an extent by genetic engineering. But the science is still young and it research in this field has to face ethical issues. Though Genetic engineering suggests cloning as a remedy for infertility, the ethical issues are a constraint to it being widely accepted.

Genetic Engineering can be used to diagnose and treat certain problem like genital Tuberculosis which is a asymptomatic killer. The disease causes infertility too. Researchers have found it to be the reason for some patients with unexplained infertility.

Fetal therapy is at times an extension of genetic engineering. But this is more acceptable as it is to alter ill health of the foetus than selecting its qualities.
